Caterpillar Stalker

17:00

For months I stalked my favourite person on Earth. I had recently "broken up" our friendship (never heard from him again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯), but for some reason, I still couldn’t manage to stay away from that man. This sad situation lasted from January to October 2024 - about time, right?

Now life just moves on its usual boredom. I wake up every day, drink my ultra processed cappuccino, read a few pages of a book, make my bed, take care of my plants... Funnily enough, it was my garden which gave me a new living being to stalk in the beginning of 2025. Nothing lifts your spirit more than having a purpose in life.

I have a small tree called Pata de Vaca (Cow’s Feet). And São Paulo has a species of moth who likes to lay eggs on the leaves of this particular tree. The caterpillar eats, eats, eats, and when the process of becoming a moth begins, it uses a leaf as a cocoon.

My tree had two caterpillars. One was already in the cocoon when I noticed it, and the other was still in the phase of eating all the leaves of my ornamental tree. Every night the baby caterpillar would leave the leaf at seven thirty, crawl up the branch to eat some random leaf, and in the next morning it would be “hiding” on the exact same leaf it left the previous day - the caterpillar would eat any leaf except its safe place. And everyday there I was, waiting to see the caterpillar leave its “house”to get some food.

ps: what a magical New Year’s Eve I had in 2025!
Yes, I was stalking a caterpillar on December 31 — better than crying over some Italian-American guy who speaks the same languages as I do, shares my tastes and beliefs and happens to be unbelievably good-looking (ugh, those bloody blue eyes...). Life is finally good again. Yey.
